To ensure a smooth update of the applications, please read the following points carefully. For additional specifics, please refer to the description of the respective application you wish to update.
Ignoring these instructions may lead to data loss, malfunctioning behavior / inoperability of the application, which may require significant manual effort from support to resolve.
What Should Be Considered for Every Update?
When updating the applications listed below (excluding the HVS32 shipping system), the following points should generally be observed:
- Carefully read the update description of the respective application you wish to update.
- Allow sufficient time for the update, possible tests, and recovery in case of an error.
- Create a backup of the application to restore the old version in case of an error. Typically, copying the installation directory is sufficient. Note that during operation, the files are in use. Ensure that the corresponding Windows service is stopped before copying the directory.
- Make sure that the downloaded setup is indeed the correct version. You can find the version in the setup filename.
- Ensure that the correct instance of the application is being updated. You can view the instance to be updated through the question mark during the update. If you have multiple instances of the application in use, select the option "No, install in a different directory" when updating a different instance.
- In most cases, there is an option in the component selection during setup called "Install Service." This will recreate the Windows service. Before doing this, ensure whether a service user is registered in the Windows service. This user will be discarded in this case and must be manually re-entered after the setup for the service to function correctly. This option is typically disabled during the update.
- The Windows service will be automatically stopped during the update. It must then be manually restarted.
- Once it is confirmed that the application continues to function after the update, the created backup directory can be deleted.
